Right after installing it, you will have to choose whether or not you will let the CNN Windows 8 app run in the background. You probably think it will run a lot of your RAM, but don’t worry as it has a very light footprint. By letting it run in the background, you will receive news notifications, so if you need to follow a certain story or news, this will be extremely helpful.

CNN App for Windows 8: the news that matters

The Windows 8 CNN news app has a trending section, called top story, an the next news sections are: latest stories, sections, videos and iReport where you get to submit your self-made stories. If you right-click while you’re reading an article, you have the possibility to save the article or to increase the size of the fonts used. When you are not on an article, right-clicking will show you a top-bar menu with the following options: home, latest stories, videos, history and favorites. On the lower bar, you have the option to go to the International version or refresh the page. The sections are features specific news from different areas of interest, such as news, politics, tech, sport and others. What I loved about the CNN app for Windows 8 is that I didn’t see any ads at all. Not even when loading videos. However, this might be because I am located outside U.S and Canada, where most of the advertising is probably targeted. Also, the CNN iReport in Windows 8 lets you contribute your story or even an opinion piece; you have the possibility of uploading photos and original videos straight from the app. The CNN Live Tile options lets you pin it to the start screen to follow the latest headlines. And don’t worry, it will work with your Windows RT device. If you experience issues, you can e-mail the developers at [email protected]. Download link to the CNN App for Windows 8
