This new operating system is a streamlined and more secure version of Windows 10 that runs in a sandboxed environment and doesn’t require expensive hardware. This is exactly where the company shines the most as it can talk with all the major OEMs to build these Windows S devices. Microsoft has already announced that Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Fujitsu, Samsung, and Toshiba are all working on Windows 10 S devices. So, along with announcing its new Windows 10 S, Microsoft also announced that PCs using the education-focused version of its operating system will soon be available from all its partners. Entry-level Windows 10 S devices will start at $189, a price point that should help convince schools when it comes to buying laptops for their students.

Free subscription to Minecraft Education Edition

All these new Windows Education PCs will also come with a free subscription to the Minecraft Education Edition, which will let teachers take advantage of any lessons based on the open sandbox game. Office 365 for Education (also with Microsoft Teams included) will be also free for students and teachers and will offer access to all the tools needed to get high-quality digital work done properly. Windows 10 S devices will ship this summer, just in time for the new school year. All schools will be able to download Windows 10 S for free if they want to upgrade some older devices. We’ll just have to wait and see if this all will be enough to compete with Google in the education segment. RELATED STORIES TO CHECK OUT:
