Two days ago, Microsoft confirmed that its engineer team was finalizing the fix script and today you can finally download it. As a quick reminder, KB3194496 install issues prevented thousands of Windows 10 users from installing the update. Various workarounds have been developed, such as manually installing the update or changing the Registry, but they didn’t work for all users.
Microsoft rolls out the fix script for KB3194496
You can download the fix script from Microsoft’s Support page. There is also a separate article for this fix, but the page is currently unavailable. This script is available for Insiders, as Microsoft explains: “Windows 10 1607 Script fix to unblock update for Windows Insiders”. As we already pointed out, there are many non-Insiders who are plagued by KB3194496 install issues, although Microsoft stubbornly insists that “Looks like this will only be hitting a subset of Insiders.” One user perfectly sums up the situation, confirming this issue affected more users that Microsoft initially thought: There is no clear indication about the real number of computers affected by KB3194496 install issues, but judging by the number of Windows 10 users swarming around this forum thread, it’s possible that tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of devices may have been affected. It will be interesting to see if the next Patch Tuesday release is also affected by install issues. Even if the recently released fix script solves the problem, many Windows 10 users will think twice before installing the next update. Have you already downloaded the Windows 10 KB3194496 fix script?
