Unfortunately, Microsoft confirmed this tool would no longer be shipped with future Windows 7 updates. The news was confirmed when the tech giant shipped KB4493472 update without PciClearStaleCache.exe. Microsoft recommends System Administrators to make sure the monthly roll ups released between April 2018 and March 2019 are installed on their systems. These updates are mandatory before the installation of the April 2019 updates and future updates because they came with the PciClearStaleCache.exe tool. Microsoft says that this tool is necessary to resolve potential consistencies that might exist in the internal PCI cache. That is why you are required to install an update that comes with PciClearStaleCache.exe in any of these situations.
Microsoft pulls Windows 7 Updates
Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users got security-only updates on April 9, 2019. These updates were released to fix security issues that existed in both versions of Windows. However, these Patch Tuesday Updates came with system crash issues for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. Thankfully, the bugs did not affected Windows 1o April Updates as those users were already dealing with buggy October 2018 update released last year. Most Windows 7 users reported they failed to boot their systems after the installation of latest Windows 7 April Updates. Microsoft has not yet released a fix for this bug. This situation forced Microsoft to halt Windows 7 And 8.1 April Updates to avoid any further issues. Apart from Sophos Endpoint, the bug also affected users running Avast antivirus security solution.
