The security policy aims to protect Office 365 users to get a basic level of protection without having to do too much. The preset will also join the Standard, and Strict presets and is dubbed Built-In-Protection. However, this preset will be enabled by default for both new and existing users and does not require administrator actions.
Preset security
According to the senior Program Manager, Saini Sundeep, the policy is designed to maximize default protections while minimizing risk. This means that Safe Links URL wrapping will have to be disabled in the new policy. Users do not have to worry about phishing emails as Safe Links protections for Teams will be enabled. You also do not have to worry about any impact risks as this new policy has the lowest priority, and users are already covered under the Standard or Strict presets.
Rolling out soon
Microsoft will soon introduce the option to users to allow configuration exceptions on the Microsoft 365 Defender portal. Luckily, the Built-In-Protection preset has already begun to roll out, and the process is expected to be complete by the end of the year. The policy is expected to address the gaps present in protection coverage. Although Microsoft Defender has some protection features, organizations fail to turn them on at times.
