Each browser put up the following version for testing:
Microsoft Edge 38.14393.0.0; Google Chrome 53.0.2785; Mozilla Firefox 48.0.2.
The tester offers additional information on threats examined and browser protection. NSS Labs tested the three browsers’ capability to protect users and prevent threats from causing damage this year in October and September. The total amount of recorded results is 220.918 for socially engineered malware and 78.921 for phishing. The conclusion of the evaluation is that Firefox offers a 78.3% protection against socially engineered malware and a 81.4% protection against phishing. While not too shabby, Firefox actually finished last, followed by Google’s Chrome browser which scored 85.8% in socially engineered malware blocking efficiency and 82.4% for phishing. The king of the hill is Microsoft Edge, with the top rating of 99% threat neutralization for socially engineered malware and 91.4% successful phishing blocking. While not the most adored browser due to its lack of features and stability, not to mention clunky handling of some websites, Microsoft Edge cannot surpass Chrome or Firefox just yet in those categories. At least Microsoft Edge users now know that they have the least chance to be damaged by a phishing or socially engineered malware attack on their computer and browser. RELATED STORIES TO CHECK OUT:
