Windows 10 October Patch Tuesday updates

Although we’ve gotten used to big Patch Tuesday updates and lots of features and changes, it seem that Microsoft will deviate this time from the classic deployment. A smaller number of updates is expected, mainly because .NET, Exchange, and SharePoint got some big changes in September. Also, Chrome and Firefox next major releases are set for later this month. As a result, there will be minimal or no improvements at all in this Patch Tuesday. Hopefully, there will be some changes involving Adobe Flash. Considering the fact that Flash got only one security update in the last three months, now is probably the time for another one.

SSU’s and Windows 10 v1909

Speaking of security updates, it’s also possible to see some new SSU’s (service stack updates). Microsoft is releasing them separately because they are critical for stability and maintenance. SSU’s usually contain CVE fixes and they should be installed prior to any update to make sure that everything goes well. Last month we saw for the first time SSU’s released for all the operating systems, but Microsoft has released them more often in recent times. So we might see new ones in the October 2019 Patch Tuesday. Another thing to keep in mind is that the tech giant releases major feature updates on a semi-annual cycle, usually in April and October. This means that Windows 10 v1909 will finally show up. It has been tested in the Insider Program for months, and now it’s finally ready for deployment. 19H2 will be a smaller update without many new features. Basically, it will be a stepping stone for 20H1 which will be released sometime in the spring of 2020.
