The dual-OS phone Coship is currently working on a device that will run both Windows 10 Mobile and Android, giving users the choice of which OS to boot into like on a PC. Building a phone that runs both operating systems is an excellent way of dealing with the decline that Microsoft’s OS has been fighting with lately, especially since most users are now picking a device running Google’s platform. A dual-OS phone would make it possible for Windows fans to stick with the OS and also be connected with all Microsoft is doing in the area without suffering from the lack of apps and other setbacks Android isn’t affected by. Some might say that switching from one OS to another is not the most practical, but the device is probably targeted at tech-savvy users who wouldn’t mind it.
The future of Windows phones
Coshop already knows all about building dual-OS devices with the company having released a similar project in the past with the Coship 960, which ran Linux and Android. The mix was aimed at many buyers, but unfortunately, its success was limited. Unfortunately for Windows Phone, OEMs these days can’t find many reasons to build devices running it, contributing to the uncertainty felt about the platform. Microsoft said that it’s still committed to phones, but the future of Windows 10 Mobile isn’t that clear anymore. The company is expected to migrate towards Windows 10 on ARM and leave its platform specifically built for smartphones in the past.
