The minimum hardware requirements that Windows Phone 8.1 devices had to meet in order to be qualified for upgrading to Windows 10 were a screen size ranging between 3 and 8-inches, a minimum of 512MB RAM for 854×480 screens and a minimum of 1GB for screens with the following resolutions: 1024×600 pixels (WSVGA), 1280×720 pixels (HD), 1366×768 pixels (WXGA) or 960×540 pixels (qHD) resolution, 2GB for Full HD (1920×1080 pixels), WUXGA and WSXGA screens, 3GB for higher resolutions of 2560×1600 pixels (WQXGA) and 2048×1152 pixels (QWXGA). Screens with a resolution of 2560×2048 pixels (QSZGA) needed a minimum of 4GB RAM. The minimum required internal memory for phones was 8GB. Also, a minimum of 4GB of built-in storage is required for phones. Handsets with this base spec will need a SD card slot to support updates. Windows 10 for phones also requires power and volume up/ down buttons while phones with a WVGA display require Start, Back, and Search buttons. In the future, OEMs will confusingly release 7-inch tablets and 2-in-1 laptops and will run Windows 10 if they sport 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage (32-bit OS) or 20GB of storage (64-bit OS). Eligible smartphones that will run Windows 10 Mobile will have screens of up to 9-inches woth auto-flash. Windows 10 Anniversary Update, otherwise known as Redstone, will most likely be released on June 29 and will come with improved Pen compatibility and smarter Cortana certain countries.
